The Japanese have it when it comes to slow design: This is a country that tracks the daily bloom of cherry blossom in spring and celebrates the first bamboo shoots of the season. Baba Kazuko, a fashion designer who left Tokyo for the Japanese countryside long before the words artisinal and sustainable were in vogue, presides over a cafe, performance space, gallery, and a workshop, all housed in old farm buildings.
