The Multitone Rug by 'Color-Cooking' Dutch Designer Hella Jongerius
I’m not usually one for bright colors or lots of colors or primary colors or any color, really, but lately I’ve been rethinking my predilection for subtle shades. The cheery yet sophisticated Multitone Rug, featuring a rainbow’s worth of hues, by Berlin-based textiles company Maharam.
In Maharam design director Hella Jongerius‘ hands, colors are combined in expert and unexpected ways; her textiles are in the permanent collections of the Art Institute Chicago, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, and MoMA.
The Multitone Rug is made in India and features a flat handwoven yarn basket construction.
The Multitone Rug comes in 5×7, 6×9, and 8×10 sizes at DWR; $1,995 to $4,595.
There’s also a Dark Multitone colorway available if the original is just too cheery for you.
