Description from Manufactum

Green Banishes Concrete.

They were originally designed for urban greening on roofs, parking decks and other larger urban areas. Without earth, the plant pouches weigh less than 400 grammes. They’re made in England from felted polypropylene fibres recycled from carpet remnants. The material is flexible, will adapt to different ground conditions (concrete, stone, gravel), and is permeable. It has a positive effect on root environs, absorbs 40% of the precipitation that falls and releases the moisture back into the substrate as needed. It also will insulate roots against frost and protect them from drying out. In contrast to most rigidly formed plant boxes or tubs, the shapeable pouches made from the rough material can be grouped together, creating closed surfaces: an unobstructed cluster of simple flowers or a small herb and kitchen garden will look quite beautiful on the roof terrace or the balcony. A maximum of three pouches can be arranged per m².
