Canteen has firmly established itself on the British food scene, winning a series of accolades during the five years it's been in business. Founded by Patrick Clayton-Malone, Dominic Lake, and Cass Titcombe, the restaurant launched in 2005 with a location in Spitalfields; three other Canteen restaurants soon followed. The trio promote simple, locally sourced British food, and are part of a wave of restaurateurs who have put the much maligned national cuisine back on the culinary map. Along the way, Clayton-Malone launched design company Very Good and Proper with partners Ed Klauser and Andre Carpenter to produce functional, enduring furniture for the restaurant. The result? Modern sensibility meets sensible food.
