Tafel Bench

e15 tafel hp01
Design Hans De Pelsmacker, 2000
Oiled solid European oak, aluminum
Made in Germany by E-15

Tafel features a combination of table and bench which creates a unique sitting experience, in private and public environments. With its sculptural appeal the HP01 TAFEL has been selected for various museum collections. The table bench is available in solid wood and aluminium. The inside of the aluminium bench consists of a load-bearing framework covered with 3 mm (1/8 inch) thick aluminium sheet, suitable for outdoors. All components and the edges are welded and sanded by hand. The outside thickness of the walls of both versions is 66 mm (2 5/8 inch). For levelling the aluminium furniture is fitted with adjustable feet. In equal proportions but smaller measurements, HP01 TAFEL is also available in its oak version for children.

Born in Ghent, Belgium, Hans studied sculpture at the Hogeschool Saint Lucas in Ghent, where he teaches now. Since 1997 Hans has been making functional sculptures, furniture, light objects, and architectural installations. In 2000 he established his first commercial cooperation with e15 and Target Lighting. From 2001 he is responsible as the artistic director for Essential project.

Please note that European oak can be lighter in color than American oak so there will be a wide range of color variation. Also, during the seasoning of solid wood, the wood forms their characteristic cracks, which make every piece unique. These are part of the design (since e15 wants to use as much wood as possible from each trunk) and are not defects.
