Indoors our out, if this takes you back to a happy, carefree time somewhere south of the border, it’s no surprise. A version of this chair can be found across the Americas. In Belize, it’s a stout one made of tropical hardwood. Branches are used in the ones from El Salvador. Down Argentina way, gauchos build theirs from pine. Wherever they are born, these handsome chairs are about kicking back and taking in life from a totally different perspective. Re-imagining indigenous classics with a nod to the needs of modern life drives the design work of Industry Of All Nations. We first met the handsome Buenos Aires-born brothers Fernando, Patricio and Juan Diego Gerscovich when they launched the IOAN studio in Culver City, not far from our Abbot Kinney store. We loved them! Sometimes the best things in life are the most basic, and IOAN takes this to heart and craft with a diverse collection of goods–lace-up espadrilles, selvage denim, alpaca sweaters–sourced and constructed in collaboration with local communities around the world. This latest version of the chair is made in Indonesia from teak wood, a material that is low maintenance, long lasting and great for garden use. We also love them inside as a great accent to a bedroom or living room. Even folded against the wall, these beautifully made chairs bring a soulful quality to a space.
