German Dust Pan & Hand Broom

Description from Kaufmann Mercantile

Stainless steel and beechwood dustpan with and natural horsehair brush. Fine horsehair brushes sweeps dust and into ridged pan. Magnetic points on brush and dustpan make for neat storage. Made by the Redecker family in Germany for over 80 years.

This dustpan and brush set is made in Germany by the Redecker family. The fine, 100% natural horsehair is efficient in sweeping up the smallest particles of dust and debris. Ridges on the stainless steel pan keep dirt contained. Oiled wood handles, made from German beechwood, are hand hewn to the contour of your palm. Magnetic points on both the base of the brush handle and the dustpan make for neat and streamlined storage when not in use.

The natural animal bristles can be cleaned in the same way that you would care for your own hair. Wash it with mild shampoo, and rinse out completely under water. Dry at room temperature. Never place near a heater to dry. When completely dried, comb the brush gently to prevent tangles.

Friedrich Redecker, Sr. began learning the art of brush-making at age 4 in a school for the blind. In 1935 he started selling his handmade wares to neighboring farmers out of the back of his barn in Germany. Today, the man’s grandson continues to run the broom and brush business, which now encompasses two retail stores and an international customer base in Germany, France, Japan, Australia, the U.S. and Canada.
