Tile and Countertop: Modern Basics from Heath Ceramics

Issue 6 · French Design · February 12, 2009

Sausalito-based Heath Ceramics is one of our favorite sources for tiles, offering a huge array of shapes, colors, sizes, and patterns, all of which are hand crafted on site with hand-applied glazes. The made-to-order tiles are an investment—standard tiles run from $28.75 per square foot, while tiles from the Tapestry line can be as much as $77 per square foot. So we were pleased to learn that Heath has come up with a moderately priced Modern Basics line. By limiting the options to two sizes (2 by 6 inches or 3 by 6 inches) and six glazes, Heath is able to offer the tiles for the compelling price of $16.50 per square foot. N.B. Until February 15th, the tiles are on special for 10 percent off.
