BY Janet Hall

Established in 1961 in central Japan, Sugahara Glassworks produces refined glassware largely by hand and exports in limited quantities. We especially like their line of black glassware, which has an almost weightlless feel and a silky matte finish. All available at Terrestra.

Above (L to R): Black Matte 6-Ounce Old Fashioned Glass ($32); Black Matte Glass Flute ($48); Black Matte Ice Bucket ($92) with 1-quart capacity (tongs included); Black Matte 1-Quart Pitcher ($72). NB: tall glass unavailable.

Above: Also available, the Black Matte Large Glass Tumbler with an 8-oz capacity for $32.
