From Janet
Founded 150 years ago in the Catalan region of France, Les Toiles du Soleil (‘the cloth of the sun") opened its first and only US shop last December in Chelsea in New York. Rolls of striped fabrics line the walls (bringing visions of striped deck chairs lining the beaches of the French Riviera) and an array of accessories—pillows, tote bags, aprons—are on offer. The 100 percent cotton fabrics (with generous 72-inch widths) are fashioned on Old World traditional looms and are sold by the yard. Some designs—deck chairs and camp stools—are available in outdoor Sunbrella fabrics. Clients can customize anything from upholstery to accessories, including curtains for shower or window treatments.
