Raise High the Roofbeam: Rich Table in SF

Issue 77 · Summerhouse · June 21, 2013

Just over a year ago, Evan and Sarah Rich were covered in dust, renovating the interiors of their Kickstarter-funded SF restaurant Rich Table. Now, 12 months later, they're one of five recently named finalists for the James Beard Foundation award for best new restaurant in the US.

The story has a barn-raising quality to it: the husband and wife team met in the kitchen at David Bouley in NYC and worked in SF restaurants like Coi and Michael Mina before raising funds from Kickstarter to start their own restaurant. Working with designer Said-Jonathan Eghbal, the couple rehabbed the interiors of the Hayes Valley restaurant over a three-month period (enlisting friends and family), creating a rustic setting for their refined take on farm-to-table cuisine. For information, go to Rich Table.
