Restaurant Visit: U Barba Osteria in Milan, Italy

Izabella Simmons August 18, 2011

U Barba (named after a local comedian from the 1930s) recently opened in the happening Porta Romana district of Milan. The owners, Marco and Paul (both of whom hail from Genoa), wanted to create a laid-back place to hang out with family and friends. They refurbished an industrial space with vintage finds and reclaimed wood, created an outdoor dining terrace, and added a bocce court for post-dinner games. For more information, go to U Barba.

Above: The U Barba entry features a white painted brick wall, a concrete counter, and vintage industrial desk lamps.

Above: Long wooden communal tables encourage family-style dining; source similar barn-like pendants from Barn Light Electric; $159.

Above: Mismatched dining chairs add to the informality of the dining room.

Above: A vintage refrigerator serves as a storage cupboard.
