Why call the BDDW mirror spectacular and then promote a cheaper knock off? Kind of a slap in the face to BDDW.
If the quality and workmanship is worth the price, then BDDW has nothing to worry about.
If the craftmanship and quality is worth the price, then BDDW has nothing to worry about.
BDDW is amazing, but they are slapping us with that price!
There are enough hedgefunders and trustfunders out there to sustain companies like BDDW, De La Espada, etc. (but for how much longer?). Why is it $1600? Because it can be. I don't see why that mirror couldn't be sold profitably for 2/3 the price. Maybe even half.
But then again, the subtle differences make all the difference:
The BDDW strap is on the outer edge of the hanging puck, the way a chain attaches to a gear, making the industrial reference more powerful. It's 25% larger. Leather over wood is gorgeous and requires much greater time and craftsmanship.
My advice to Maison Luxe--reproportion your hanging puck as per BDDW and make it in the same steel as the mirror. Can't cost much more and it would look much better.
Thanks for including our mirror in this article! A quick note to EG, above. We don't manufactur the mirror, however I think your comments are right on. I'm sure the mfgr. of our mirror was inspired by the BDDW mirror, but has made an effort to keep the style somewhat unique while also keeping the price within reach for most consumers. Our mirror is made from a solid blackened steel surround, with polished nickel (or antique brass) puck and hardware, and a beautiful leather strap. A great alternative, I think!
