Spotted on the blog Katy Elliott: a Wardian case, an early form of terrarium, developed in the mid-1800s to transport rare plant specimens. Today, they can still be used to create an indoor garden (or serve as a vitrine for beloved objects).

Above: Wardian Case from Paxton Gate, 9 inches wide and 8 inches tall; $65.

Above: During the holidays, a Wardian case can display bay laurel or other seasonal foliage.
