We've posted on rope before (DIY: Stair Rope Banisters); here are some more uses for rope in interiors—the only requirement is a knowledge of knots.

Above L: A lantern suspended on a rope, and (above R) a simple mirror lashed to the wall with rope; both from the portfolio of Napa-based designer Erin Martin.

Above: A vintage mirror from 14 Feet in Healdsburg, CA.

Above: A giant linen lantern with rope hanger; via South of Market's project portfolio.

Above: Another mirror with rope hanger from Erin Martin's portfolio.

Above: Currently available at 14feet in Healdsburg; a 36-inch Circular Mirror (with rope hanger) made from reclaimed scaffolding boards; $400.

love this style. I would probably have the misfortune of the mirror falling from any rope structure I create though!
The lights in the diner at Ace Hotel in Palm Springs are hung by knotted rope... perhaps this could have lead the influence for these other designs?
