I recently came across these images of the Hotel Basico in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. The exposed pipes and simple turn valves serve as an inspiration for bathroom and kitchen remodels; leaving pipes exposed keeps costs down and creates a stylish industrial aesthetic. Team with simple industrial lights (see 10 Easy Pieces: Industrial Lights).

I recently stayed at this hotel. It is, indeed, fantastically designed. The roof-top bar/lounge area with old oil tanks converted to dipping pools is killer. The rooms are loaded with fantastic, unique and utilitarian details.
Those considering a visit, be forewarned – it's unfortunately not particularly serene or relaxing. The aforementioned roof-top bar is perched directly on top of all the rooms. And downtown Playa del Carmen provides no real escape, either.
