10 Easy Pieces: White Kitchen Sinks

From Janet

When it comes to kitchen sinks, we favor deep, single-bowl undermount models, capable of holding a dinner party's worth of dishes and accomodating oversize pots. Here is a roundup of our favorites (our stainless picks are in 10 Easy Pieces: Stainless Kitchen Sinks).

Single-Bowl Fireclay Apron Sink from Remodelista

Above: I used (and recommend) Shaw's Original Fireclay Apron Front Sink from Rohl in my Seattle remodel. It's a classic farmhouse sink, made in Lancashire, England, measuring 30 by 18 by 10 inches; $971.25 at Designer Plumbing.

White Kitchen Farmhouse Apron Front Sink from Remodelista

Above: Barclay's single-bowl fireclay White Kitchen Farmhouse Apron Front Sink (shown in a 24-inch wide, 8-inch deep size) is $439 at Amazon and is also available in a 30-inch-wide model for $699.

Universal Fireclay Farmhouse Kitchen Sink from Remodelista

Above: The Universal Fireclay Farmhouse Kitchen Sink (WWSK51) measures 29 3/4 by 17 7/8 by 10 inches and features an offset drain; $1,277 at Waterworks.

Blancoprecis Undermount Super SIngle Bowl Sink from Remodelista

Above: The Blanco precis Undermount (#440150) Super SIngle Bowl Sink is made of 80 percent granite and is resistent to heat, scratches, and chemicals. Measuring 32 by 18.75 by by 9.5 inches, the sink is $377.40 at eFaucets. The Blanco diamond (#440195) Undermount Single Bowl Sink is identical but features an offset drain and is $346.20 at eFaucets.

Rohl's Allia Fireclay Single-Bowl Kitchen Sink from Remodelista

Above: Rohl's Allia Fireclay Single-Bowl Kitchen SInk with offset drain placement is 31 1/8 inches wide, 19 5/8 inches deep, and 11 inches high; $530.40 at eFaucets.

Kohler Dickinson Undercounter Sink from Remodelista

Above: The Kohler Dickinson Undercounter Sink with Apron is constructed of durable cast iron and measures 33 by 22 by 8.75 inches (shown in cane sugar); $1,538.59 at Plumbers Surplus.

Cesame Farm Sink from Remodelista

Above: The Italian-made fireclay Cesame Farm Sink for Aquaware is notable because it comes in an oversize 36-inch-wide version (the two sizes available are 30 by 20 by 10 inches or 36 by 20 by 10 inches); go to Kitchen Bath for more information.

Kohler's Bakersfield White Cast-Iron Sink from Remodelista

Above: Kohler's Bakersfield White Cast-Iron Sink with a large single 27-by-15-by-8-inch basin; $410.24 at Plumbers Surplus.

Whitehaus Collection Farmer Fireclay Sink from Remodelista

Above: Whitehaus Collection Farmer Fireclay Sink; $576 for the 24-by-16-by-8-inch size at Vintage Tub and Bath.

American Standard Country Farmhouse Sink from Remodelista

Above: Although the American Standard Country Farmhouse Sink is not an undermount, it's our favorite alternative; $730 at Vintage Tub and Bath.

I love this type of sink, and am considering getting one, but I have been told that they chip easily. Does anyone have good/bad experience to share?

The IKEA Domsjo is also a great affordable option. I used it in my kitchen remodel and loved it.

We installed a 30", single basin, fireclay farmhouse sink when we re-did our kitchen and we love it. We have had no problems as far as chipping - I understand that fireclay is the way to go, though, because if it were to chip, the color is uniform throughout (not the case with porcelain or cast iron).

I agree with the single wide sink to accommodate large pans/platters. But it should not be all that deep, because then it's hard to reach into and will give you a backache. I have a big but shallow (7" deep) undermount sink and it is just perfect -- plenty deep for hand-washing, but not so deep I have to bend over too far.
