Furniture: West Elm Chair

From Janet:

New at West Elm, the solid hardwood Oval Back Dining Chair is $159 and looks as good in situ as in the catalog. Available in white, chocolate, or acorn. For more deceptively simple wood chairs, see our earlier posts Furniture: Shaker Chair at DWR and Steal This Look: Roy McMakin Chairs.

Office & Children’s Rooms: Hanging Chalkboard

From Sarah:

I am a devotee of chalkboards. We have a large one in our kitchen, and my children have duly learned to scribble notes to remind me of games, lunchbox necessities, and so on. I like the new German-made hanging Cap’n Hook Chalkboard (especially the clips); $55 at MoMA Store. (See Office: Instant Chalkboard for other ideas.)

Steal This Look: Family Work Space

From Janet:

One of the prime requirements of modern family life: a communal computer station. (Webkinz? Stardoll? MapQuest?) I created an instant work space in a corner of our sunroom with a few easy-to-source elements.

10 Easy Pieces: Small Wastebaskets

From Julie:

A Remodelista reader emailed us a while back and pleaded for a 10 Easy Pieces post on office/bath wastebaskets. We blithely agreed, but we have to confess that finding ten good ones was a challenge.

Bicycle as sculpture, in a room from Flickr’s Amsterdam Living Room group. Read about the Dutch public transport bicycle program, OV-Fiets, which allows members to borrow bikes at train stations for the journey to the office.

Another case of “I wish I lived back in the UK” struck me when I came across Otto Furniture’s Pause Desk. Pause is a system of shelving and storage options designed by Otto’s Simon Howkins for living room and home office situations.

Below: Pause two-drawer desk with a list price of £2241. Go to Otto Furniture for more information .
