House Gift: Pinhole Patterned Hurricane Lanterns

From Janet:

Another great idea for a summer house gift: hurricane lanterns by notNeutral that are at once modern and ethnic.

Below: Set of two small white hurricanes (6 inches tall and 4 inches wide). Steel with weather-resistant baked-on finish, the Moroccan and Mexican-inspired lanterns emit candlelight through tiny pinholes; $32 for the pair at Design Public.

Below: The larger, standalone Black Season Lantern from notNeutral is available in three heights: 14, 20, and  26 inches, ranging in price from $50 to $180. Each size comes with a removable candle armature for easy candle lighting. Also at Design Public.

Outdoors: Adirondack Roundup

From Julie:

I spotted the original O.G. Adirondack chair (below), designed in 1903 by Thomas Lee, on Reference Library, which inspired me to look for appealing variations on the iconic design.

Outdoors: Rustic Storage

From Julie:

Although these rustic outdoor storage pieces from Santa Barbara–based Country Barn Collection are meant for equestrians, we think they’d look great anywhere. Made from reclaimed Douglas fir or redwood, the armoires start at $2,995 and the feed bins (we see them as outdoor garbage can storage) start at $1,195.

Outdoors: Celia Birtwell for Millets

From Julie:

Sounds like an odd match: swinging sixties designer Celia Birtwell and UK camping supplier Millets. The result? Sleeping bags, tents, camp chairs, Wellington boots featuring patterns from Birtwell’s new Pop Story collection. Kate Moss has probably already ordered the line for her next appearance at Glastonbury.

Outdoors: Soji Solar Lanterns

From Julie:

One of the best ideas for nighttime illumination we’ve come across in a while: the rechargeable Soji Solar Lanterns from Allsop Garden. Made of durable fade- and weather-resistant nylon, the 10-inch round solar accordion lanterns can be charged in the sun during the day. Available in six colors.

Outdoors: Summer Table Linens

From Janet:

I admire the earthy elegance of the Belgian feedbag-inspired Runner ($72) and Placemats ($65 for a set of four) at Viva Terra. Woven from pesticide-free cotton and dyed with organic indigo by a women’s coop in Southern India. Perfect for the outdoor table—and for your conscience.

Fabrics & Linens: Lulu DK Outdoor Fabric

From Francesca:

A recent search for outdoor fabric brought me back to an old favorite, Lulu DK. Designer Lulu de Kwiatowski was raised in a city manse with interiors by legendary social decorator Sister Parish, whose influence you can see in Lulu DK’s uptown townhouse-meets-boho-Paris aesthetic. As the trend for outdoor rooms has developed, Lulu DK has kept right up, expanding her outdoor fabric collection to include more stripes and simple geometrics. Her stain-, UV-, water-, and mildew-resistant 100 percent acrylic outdoor fabrics are approximately $140 a yard from Hinson & Company in New York (212) 475 4145. For other showrooms, go to Lulu DK.

Below: We love the Mix ‘n’ Match section of Lulu DK’s website, where she displays coordinating fabrics from her collections. Perfect for the pattern-impaired.
