One of the only drawbacks with dishwasher drawers has been the 12-inch limitations in height, making it impossible to wash oversize plates. The new DishDrawer from Fisher Paykel solves the problem with a tall top drawer, which can handle 13-inch plates with ease. The Semi-Integrated Double DishDrawer DD24DT’s features include 9 wash programs, intelligent load sensing, adjustable racks, folding tines, tall tub, and is ADA compliant. Available in white, black, stainless with LCD, flat stainless front, and custom panel options. For more options, see our earlier post, Appliances: Dishwasher Drawers.

Seattle-based Henrybuilt, maker of our favorite kitchen systems, has introduced an array of functional and aesthetically pleasing kitchen workspace components, including a cutting board, colander, and knife holder. Made of high-density plastic or wood, the pieces are designed to integrate with the backsplash system and countertop area around the sink. Henrybuilt tells us that additional components will be introduced later in 2009. For more information, contact Henrybuilt or visit their Seattle or New York showrooms.

Above: The workspace components attach to the backsplash via small buttons; designed with ease of installation in mind, the system’s modular backsplash panels hang via a cleat bracket system.

Here’s an idea we haven’t seen before: trays used as kitchen shelves, a concept worth considering.

The Hillsborough Kitchen Island is topped with reclaimed slate that once served as a school chalkboard; the solid frame is reclaimed cedar from a factory. This rustic, free-standing counter could serve as a kitchen island, bar, or buffet; $1,795 from the Sundance Catalog.

Duravit has entered the kitchen with the Starck K Kitchen Sink, designed by Philippe Starck. The sink comes in two models: one with a large rectangular single basin, the other with a smaller basin coupled with an overflow tray (cutting board and colander accessories available). Our sleuthing tells us that the Starck K sink will be available toward the end of 2009.
