Stockholm multidisciplinary firm Claesson Koivisto Rune is behind the recent architectural endeavors of design company Sfera, including the Sfera Shop in Tokyo, a sleek, organic showpiece for the company’s line of sophisticated housewares. In Kyoto, the firm designed the innovative Sfera Building, located in the heart of the city’s traditional Gion district (typically most noted for its geisha). The building includes a restaurant, exhibition spaces, meeting areas, as well as a shop, where furniture pieces by Claesson Koivisto Rune, commisioned by Sfera, are sold, as well as pieces designed by local artists and artisans. Go to Sfera to see the offerings.

The Minima decanter by Cecile Manz for Holmegaard would look equally at home on a picnic table or in a more formal dinner setting. Available in three colors (clear, turquoise, and smoke); the large decanter is $60 and the small decanter is $50. Designed by Australian artist Jonathan Baskett for Mexico City–based Nouvel Studios; $68 for a set of three, available in smoke, steel blue, or copper ruby at A+R Store. We’d use them as a trio of small vases.

A great summer house gift: wind chimes. We like these ceramic Moon Chimes strung on a resilient seven-foot pandan leaf string. $49 at Viva Terra.

I was lucky enough to be on the receiving end of this great house gift recently. Italian design house Seletti makes these irresistible Glass Water Bottles, inspired by their plastic counterparts. Pair with simple drinking glasses for eco-friendly water service at your summer table. $40 each at Lekker Home. Also available at ABC Carpet & Home in New York, Zaragoza in San Anselmo, and Martin in St. Helena. Also see our post 10 Easy Pieces: Water Carafes.

Another great idea for a summer house gift: hurricane lanterns by notNeutral that are at once modern and ethnic.
Below: Set of two small white hurricanes (6 inches tall and 4 inches wide). Steel with weather-resistant baked-on finish, the Moroccan and Mexican-inspired lanterns emit candlelight through tiny pinholes; $32 for the pair at Design Public.

Below: The larger, standalone Black Season Lantern from notNeutral is available in three heights: 14, 20, and 26 inches, ranging in price from $50 to $180. Each size comes with a removable candle armature for easy candle lighting. Also at Design Public.
