Fabrics & Linens: Delavan Stripe at Rubie Green Fabrics

From Francesca:

It’s always a challenge to find upholstery fabric online. Former Domino editor Michelle Adams has produced a line of simple bold prints on organic cotton; we especially like the Delavan Stripe; $90 a yard at Rubie Green.

Slow Design: Environment Furniture in LA

From Sarah:

We like the look and feel of the recycled denim and old army tent canvas used in these pieces from the eco-conscious company Environment Furniture. Part design consortium, part modern crafts shop, Environment is a furniture maker with a forward-thinking commitment to using materials and processes with low environmental impact. Environment’s retail showrooms are located in New York,  Orange County, and a new flagship location in LA. The company uses only reclaimed, recycled, and sustainably harvested wood in its designs.

Fabrics & Linens: New House Textiles

From Francesca:

One of our favorite iconic summer prints is Herring, designed by Marianne Nilsson in the 1950s. UK company New House Textiles recently reintroduced Herring—as well as a selection of midcentury Scandinavian designs—for their new Homewares Collection (they ship worldwide).

Fabrics & Linens: Aboubakar Fofana Textiles at the ICFF

From Francesca & Julie:

Malian textile designer and calligrapher Aboubakar Fofana, who lives and works in the UK (he spent more than 20 years studying and developing dying techniques in Japan and France), showed his ethereal textiles at the ICFF. Fofana operates a workshop in Mali, where he produces a collection of bed covers and fabrics with a mix of ethnic influences. His passion for indigo plants and natural dyes has led to a revival of the use of the indigo plant in West Africa. For purchasing information, visit the design collective Design Africa or the Aboubakar Fofana website; Fofana has also shown his work at ABC Carpet & Home in New York.

Shopper’s Diary: Les Toiles du Soleil in Chelsea

From Janet:

Founded 150 years ago in the Catalan region of France, Les Toiles du Soleil (‘the cloth of the sun”) opened its first and only US shop last December in Chelsea in New York. Rolls of striped fabrics line the walls (bringing visions of striped deck chairs lining the beaches of the French Riviera) and an array of accessories—pillows, tote bags, aprons—are on offer. The 100 percent cotton fabrics (with generous 72-inch widths) are fashioned on Old World traditional looms and are sold by the yard. Some designs—deck chairs and camp stools—are available in outdoor Sunbrella fabrics. Clients can customize anything from upholstery to accessories, including curtains for shower or window treatments. Photos via My Happiness Project, Racked and Les Toiles du Soleil.

Fabrics & Linen: Black and White Checks

From Julie & Sarah:

Lately, we’ve been gravitating toward black and white checks—ginghams, buffalo plaids, houndstooth. Here are some rooms we admire that feature graphic black and white geometrics.
