From Janet:
I love this redo of a children’s bath by blogger Mama Urchin, who scrapped towel bars in favor of hooks when she discovered her kids were using them for acrobatic assists. She painted a board with magnetic paint (available through Kling Magnetics) and bolted it to the wall for towel ID purposes—magnetic frames hold pictures of her children. For detailed instructions on recreating the look, go to Mama Urchin; to source hooks, consult 10 Easy Pieces: Clothes Hooks.

I am a devotee of chalkboards. We have a large one in our kitchen, and my children have duly learned to scribble notes to remind me of games, lunchbox necessities, and so on. I like the new German-made hanging Cap’n Hook Chalkboard (especially the clips); $55 at MoMA Store. (See Office: Instant Chalkboard for other ideas.)

We love this vintage beech and plywood Rappelkiste bunk bed and desk (note the small closet paneled with chalkboard)—something to have a skilled carpenter recreate. Designed in 1975 by Luigi Colani for German company Elbro. For more ideas, see the ingenious Bed Cupboard from Netherlands-based Kids Factory and our 10 Easy Pieces: Kids’ Modern Beds post. Legendary British designer Celia Birtwell is having a second moment (her first was as a clothing designer in the swinging sixties outfitting the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Twiggy) as a fabric and textile designer; she has operated an interior design showroom in Notting Hill since the eighties. Her Beasties and Little Animals fabric and wallpaper has us in raptures. Available at Suzan Fellman Showroom in Los Angeles and Lucy Rose in Chicago. The fabric is also available at UK website Fabrics and Papers for £50 a meter; the wallpaper is £55 per roll. View her entire line at Celia Birtwell, where you can also buy the fabric directly (don’t miss the Sale Bin, where Beasties 100 percent cotton fabric in pink can currently be found for £24 a meter).
