Hardware: Rotating Outlet
August 14th, 2008
From Janet:
Ever try plugging in your Mac and cell-phone charger at the same time? Thanks to the proliferation of bulky plugs on home appliances and electronics, many of our dual sockets can accommodate only one plug at a time. Designed by a woman engineer, the 360 Electrical Rotating Duplex Outlet solves the problem. Both the top and bottom sockets rotate in either direction a full 360 degrees, providing the flexibility needed to make full use of both outlets. Available in four colors at Ace Hardware for $11.99.

Well, ain’t that brilliant. Why did nobody think of this earlier?

^Funny story….
A few years ago, when I was still a teenager, I had this same idea (well, it was for a powerbar, but the same concept). Strangely enough, just a few weeks later, Engadget reported that a company had filed a patent on it. They also said the same thing: “Why didn’t anyone think of this earlier?”… to which I can respond, “I did!”
So anyway, while this outlet seems to be a new application of an existing idea, I’d still love to have one.
