Appliances: La Pavoni Europicola
January 7th, 2008
From Janet and Julie:
One of the myriad things we have in common is our devotion to La Pavoni espresso makers. Designed by iconic Italian master Gio Ponti, the machines are as much sculpture as appliance. Williams-Sonoma sells the 8-cup Chrome Euro EPC-8 model, with a capacious nickel-plated brass tank and a Bakelite screw top, for $699.95. Coffee fanatic site Whole Latte Love sells the same model for $719, but is worth a visit just to peruse the offerings.

La Pavoni devotees tend to be fantantic; check out Lair of the Chrome Peacock, by Kazys Varnelis of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, perhaps the definitive word on the care and maintenance of the Chrome Peacock. Espresso Savant is another blog devoted to the notoriously temperamental La Pavoni.

! Kindred souls indeed. I have been devoted to La Pavoni since (I am really aging myself here) the early nineties. And I had no idea they were designed by Gio Ponti… thank you for that info.
