Accessories: Modern Hearth
November 18th, 2007
From Julie:
Designed by Singapore-based architect Albano Daminato for the Amankora Lodge in Bhutan, this wood-burning stove is based on a traditional Bhutanese bukhari, altering the conventional round drum form to a more rectilinear one. Daminato used blackened sheet metal for the body and flue and natural pebbles for the stove top.

Below: Another beauty; this one you can actually buy. Antonio Citterio’s Shaker stove from Wittus.

How about Rais and Tulikivi?
Maybe not as elegant as the above — although some of their models are pretty close — but much more practical, especially in soapstone, which you can touch without suffering burns (important in a household with kids).
