Two rooms we love that mix stylistic notes effortlessly:
From Living Etc.: Note the juxtaposition of the ornate silver candelabras with the rustic wood table and the modernist chairs:

I didn’t think it could be done: integrating Colonial pieces with a modernist interior. But NYC architect Mary Burnham of Murphy Burnham & Buttrick Architects (mbbarch.com) proves me wrong with this summer-house kitchen:

I tire of melamine dinnerware in the summer. Here’s a gorgeous alternative I stumbled upon in London: Virebent porcelain tableware from the Lot region in France. The simple shapes and festive colors are perfect for summer. I’m imagining an outdoor table covered in a rough white linen cloth and set with deep aqua plates. Virebent ships worldwide; prices for plates range from $10 to $14 each, or $103 for a set of 12. To order, contact them at porcelaine.virebent.france@wanadoo.fr or phone (+33.05.65.3646.31). I’m enamored of this simple Italian glass chandelier I saw during my recent London trip. It’s available in four-, six-, and eight-arm styles, and ranges in price from £189 to £355 at Graham and Green’s Notting Hill shop (4 Elgin Crescent, London, W11). View at grahamandgreen.co.uk:

Just discovered this trompe-l’oeil wallpaper from UK artist Deborah Bowness. It has a pleasingly faded, slightly eerie, Polaroid-photo quality that would look great in a brownstone. Go to deborahboness.com to view samples:

Our architect friend Jerome Buttrick (buttrickwongarchitects.com) clued us in to this sleek, sculptural cabinet hardware by artisan/architect Carl Martinez, who hand-makes and finishes each piece in his lower Manhattan studio (83 Canal St., #603, NY, NY 10002; 212/941-5216 or carlmartinezhardware.com). Imagine how a pair of these knobs could ennoble an otherwise unremarkable midcentury piece.

We’re hitting the mid-summer mark, and I’m thinking about breeziness. Recently found the stunningly stylish Slat House (at a Canadian site called theslowhome.com), which looks like it would allow for maximum airflow. Visit UK design firm Turner Castle online at turnercastle.com:
